Does the revised RTS opening target mean you should abandon plans to buy near CIQ or Bukit Chagar? The announcement alone is not a reason to reach that conclusion. It concerns the remaining testing and approval process, and what it means for your purchase depends on the property and your own timeline.

The RTS February 2027 target comes from a joint statement by Singapore’s Land Transport Authority and Malaysia’s Ministry of Transport on 2 October 2026. Below is what it says, what it leaves open, and what a buyer can sensibly do with the information.

What has actually changed in the RTS February 2027 target?RTS 2027年2月的目标，究竟变了什么？

The expected start of passenger service has moved. The statement does not say the construction is unfinished. It says more time is needed for testing, certification and approvals.

变的是乘客服务的预计开始时间。声明并没有说工程尚未完成，而是说测试、认证与审批需要更多时间。

These are four different milestones, and finishing one does not automatically grant the next:

Malaysia’s Transport Minister Anthony Loke said on 8 October that the general timeframe is around mid-February, and that the exact date will only be clear once all approvals are obtained (CNA). Singapore’s Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow said the aim is to start services before Hari Raya next year.

马来西亚交通部长陆兆福在10月8日表示，大致时间约在2月中旬，确切日期要在取得所有批准后才能确定（CNA）。新加坡交通部长黄志瑞则表示，目标是在明年哈芽节之前开始服务。

So February 2027 is a target, not an unconditional opening date.

因此，2027年2月是目标，而不是无条件的通车日期。

Why does a cross-border railway need careful preparation?为什么跨境铁路需要审慎筹备？

Because two countries must be satisfied before passengers board. Authorities in both Singapore and Malaysia review the independent safety certification first. Mr Loke has said that safety is a priority because this is a cross-border service expected to carry thousands of people daily.

This does not mean a domestic MRT or LRT line skips safety checks. Those also go through rigorous checks. The difference here is that two sets of authorities must coordinate.

Does a later opening automatically mean a worse property investment?开通延后，房产投资就一定变差吗？

No, not automatically. A change in the opening date does not, on its own, establish a change in a particular property’s value.

It still matters whether each project fits your plans. Buyers should keep looking at:
